Ellen, as most of us were or have yet to be in our 20’s, was wandering in a state of confusion when it came to discovering what her calling was in the world. She knew she was funny, but what exactly was a young funny New Orleans native to do with such skills? Ellen began joining competitions, eventually to win the award for ‘The Funniest Person in America’. As time progressed, Ellen found herself in a relationship with a young woman, and as she was driving home from work one day, she indifferently drove past the scene of a car crash. Later she would discover that her girlfriend had died in that car accident. Ellen spiraled into a world of further torment and confusion, but such a low point in her life would inspire stand up material that would launch her into success as a comedian. As she lay in her flea infected apartment floor, having a one sided conversation with God, she asked God why he ever decided to create fleas? She made a promise soon after, that she would become the first female comedian to be called up on the King of Late Night, Johnny Carson’s stage. Her intention was realized as she became not only the first, but the only female comedian on Jimmy Carson’s show to be called up to talk to him after her routine.
Ellen broke down barriers for gay and lesbians around the world. She is an animal lover, and has long advocated for the humane treatment of animals. She is now America’s most popular TV host, recently beating Oprah in polls of popularity.
Ellen Degeneres is someone to turn to when in you’re the mood to laugh and lighten up, and her good vibes are felt all over TV sets in North America.
